Charter School Litigation Update
It seems the litigation front stalled a bit with Mr. Paul Minney's donor getting a little "fatigued" and deciding not to continue funding the litigation effort for charter mandates. In response, I will be heading up the litigation effort and plan to not waste any further time getting this issue before the Courts.
Mr. Minney's firm will continue to be involved, albeit in a diminished capacity. A "meeting of minds" will be held next week to finalize a few details, but beyond that the drafting on my end has already begun. It seems a little ridiculous in these extremely tough budget times that the charter nation continues to be on the outside looking in when it comes to the receipt of mandate funding and protection. As many of you may already be aware, there is legislation currently out there that would impose the Open Meetings Act and Brown Act Reform mandates upon charter schools. I am certain this is but one of many new mandates (oversight fees and activities?) charters could receive funding for if only this issue were settled in our favor.
I will keep you posted as litigation progresses.
